"Myths do not tell us how, they simply give us the invisible background which starts us imagining, questioning, going deeper."

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Cross Cultural Applications for Change

The Value of Mythology in Cross Cultural Applications

Mythos is Greek for story. Throughout the history of humankind, myth, narratives or stories have been used to help people express themselves in ways that create a sense of belonging, promote personal growth, and enhance physical well-being. Mythologies emerge from diverse contexts, including the individual, the family, and the larger cultural group.

Myths of the individual are examined to reveal information about a person to people in her or his life; to express needs, feelings emotions, desires and creativity; and to engage in solving many of life’s problems.

Myths of the family allow families to transmit the family history (lineage, lore and values) from parents or grandparents to children, to facilitate maturation, make sense of the world, learn about ancestry, and facilitate relationships.

Myths of the culture are an important means of understanding our role in the world, making sense of our environment, and of transmitting information, knowledge, and wisdom from generation to generation.

The complex stories of our life and times … are our myths. These stories can be actively used in business, health care professions, and education to help us better understand who we are, how we might change, and why the need for change.

To know, and enrichen the narratives driving our actions brings meaning, connectivity, interdependence, and helps to sustain the human spirit.

If we do not deepen our stories, we live in unconscious and painful states. Life can feel meaningless and empty. The study of mythology is of central importance to any study of the individual, society, or human culture as a whole. It encompasses our stories, art & sciences, histories, religions, our traditions of ritual and ceremony; healing potentially occurs when humans discover what it means to live their myth.

The Certificate in Cross Cultural Applications for Change is recommended for educators, health care practitioners, therapists, training and executive coaches, artists, managers, community leaders, entrepreneurs, communications consultants, and media strategists.
